Visiting
the wine cellars

The Gomboshegy and Kőporos wine cellar rows are located at the two ends of Hercegkút. The wine cellar rows can be visited at any time throughout the year. Both cellar rows host wineries that operate according to their own opening hours – it is advisable to check their websites or Google Maps before visiting. The exact locations of the wine cellar rows are marked on the maps below.

Kőporos

The Kőporos wine cellar row is located on the northern side of the village, towards Makkoshotyka. Here, a total of 87 almost perfectly uniform triangular-gabled cellars line the romantically winding cobblestone streets. At the top of the Kőporos cellar row, there is a playground and barbecue facilities with gazebos. In 2023, the World Heritage Experience Center was completed on the northern side of the Kőporos cellar row. It functions as an event space, cultural community space, and tasting area, and features an infographic exhibition that showcases the process of noble rot (aszúsodás), which has made Tokaji wines famous, as well as the local winemaking traditions and the different types of Tokaji wine.

If you are visiting the Tokaj wine region, don’t miss this wonderful location, which offers perfect relaxation for those who enjoy the harmony of architecture, nature, and winemaking. Both on the Kőporos and Gomboshegy cellar rows, several wineries are in operation. At their premises, you can rest and taste the excellent Tokaj-Hegyalja wines produced locally.

Gomboshegy

The Gomboshegy wine cellar row stretches along the southern side of Hercegkút, near the village’s entrance from the main road 37. Upon entering the village, take the first street to the right, and you will arrive directly at the Gomboshegy cellar row. Above the cellar row lies the Calvary Hill, offering a stunning panorama of Hercegkút, the peaks of the Zemplén Mountains, and even a clear view of the Kőporos cellar row at the other end of the village.

Visit this location and enjoy a glass of wine while admiring the surrounding scenery, resting by the beautiful, historic cellars.
